Other Common Names: Scientific Name: Bignonia capreolata Linnaeus (Anisostichus capeolata (Linnaeus) Bureau) Family: Bignoniaceae (Bignonia Family); Genus: Bignonia (Cross-vine; a monotypic genus) Radford et al. (1968): Anisostichus capreolata, Cross-vine p. 963 Range in the US: The South and the Lower MidWest SE Nativity: Yes Habit: Large Perennial Evergreen Vine Sun: Shade-Full Soil: Dry-Moist Germination: Unknown. Suggest at least 1 month stratification Parentage: UGA Forestry, Athens-Clarke County, GA Comments: A vigorous vine but not aggressive; the trunks can grow to be quite thick. It is one of the first of the season to produce flowers, which are orange and yellow trumpets, and therefore supplies one of the few of the first nectar sources for returning hummingbirds. Cross-vine is a relative of Campsis radicans, Trumpet-vine (which, although also a native, is much more aggressive than Cross-vine). Image by Wayne Hughes ©SparkleberrySprings.com USDA-BICA Profile
